Abstract

The election of Indonesia as the G20 Presidency 2022 opens up wide opportunities for Indonesia to bring strategic issues into priority agendas that reflect the interest of developing countries and are line with national interest. The existence of the G20 is becoming increasingly strategic and very influential on world economic and financial governance, because collectively it represents around 2/3 population on the world, 75% of global trade, and at least 85% of global Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and also 80% of global investment. The priority agenda in the G20 Presidency of Indonesia which is in line with the Sustainable Develoment Goals (SDG;s) is wished to be a navigator for the direction of policy making on a national scale, so that the euphoria of the Indonesian G20 Presidency is not only a trend but in its implementation it is able to reach the smallest regional units in Indonesia.Base on the economic phenomenon, the concept of development is expected to bring a trickle down effect to the wider community. However in practice, economic development in rural areas often contradicts these expectations. Economic development in rural areas create a backwash effect for the rural areas themselves. How far the role of Presidency G20 Indonesia in 2022 is extend for sustainable rural economic development through aligning the pillars of the Indonesian G20 Presidency to become a road map in determining rural economic strategies and policies, so that the momentum of Indonesia’s G20 Presidency really brings benefit to the economic development of rural areas.
